The WAWA Sofa Collection is designed by Richard Ward. Each sofa is handmade to order, and upholstered with great care and attention to detail using the best of both modern and traditional materials. Contemporary fabric collections are on display in the showroom and samples can be mailed on request.

Richard's unique approach to the furniture design and manufacture process is what has attracted so many loyal customers over the years. Offering a personalised service to each customer, from initial consultation all the way through to delivery, all Wawa sofas are made in London by a dedicated, highly skilled team of furniture makers.

Richard Ward

​

Richard Ward originally trained as a sculptor and after working in the film industry for a number of years set up as a bespoke furniture designer in a converted Victorian warehouse in the heart of Shoreditch, the traditional furniture-making area of London, in the late eighties. In 1990 he designed his first sofa and by 2000 his workshop had become WAWA studio & showroom where he designs exclusively sofas and armchairs, each one uniquely tailored to complement his clients’ individual style and flair.

Richard’s collection of tailored lounge furniture includes innovative solutions, like the Bay Window Sofa - a ground breaking design made to fit into the angles of a Victorian bay window - and the Ottoman folding bed, a compact chaise longue which open’s into a full size double bed. Both these have developed into collections in their own right, with variations and additions to the original design. The iconic Soho - an elegant and classic design, given a modern twist in it’s quirky asymmetric arm - has been the catalyst for other signature pieces like the Wallsgrove and Mary P. This organic evolution of design within the WAWA collection has been driven by Richard’s response to customer interest and requests, as well has his continuing drive to find interesting and innovative solutions to London living and lounging.
